Letter from the Bishop of Salisbury to Michael Roll

Dr John Baker comments on Michael Roll's pamphlet "The Suppression of Knowledge".

In his letter, Dr Baker writes:

"There are quite a number of detailed historical points with which I would wish to express disagreement simply at a factual level, but about the main thesis I find myself very largely at one with you."
"(...) but the substance of your criticisms is obviously sound and something that quite a number of us have said from within the Christian Church from time to time. The hard fact of the matter is that the Christian Church has strayed a very long way from the kind of religious view of life and the guidance for human conduct that Jesus himself supplied, and I would entirely agree that there is no hope for the Churches unless they try to get back to what their Founder taught."

Comment by Michael Roll:

No professional priest believes in the supernatural absurdities they are paid to pump into the people.

"Infidelity does not consist in believing or disbelieving; it consists in professing to believe what one does not believe."
Thomas Paine
