Open Letter from Michael Roll to Robert Morrell, November 12, 2001

Robert Morrell MBE is Secretary of The Thomas Paine Society: www.thomaspaine.org.uk

Dear Robert,

'Start the Week' BBC Radio 4: 12th November 2001

This latest vicious attack on Thomas Paine only goes to show just how dangerous his philosophy is to all those who control media and educational outlets in Great Britain.

Professor Germaine Greer's outrageous accusation that Thomas Paine - the first great champion of equality for women - was a woman hater and a homosexual is just as "good" as President Theodore Roosevelt's attack. This brainwashed Christian called Thomas Paine, "A dirty little atheist and a drunken debaucherer."

He was none of these things but if supporters of Thomas Paine are never allowed to defend these appalling lies then there is a very good chance they will stick.

Michael Roll

Comment by Michael Roll:

The hatred aimed at this great free thinking philosopher is just as great today as when he wrote The Age of Reason in 1794. His terrible "crime" was to follow the teachings of Jesus instead of a saviour-god called Christ that was invented by priests at the Council of Nicaea in 325 of the Christian era.
